For a quarter-century, Heaven Hill Master Distiller Craig Beam has been practicing his family’s craft of distilling, aging and selecting some of the world’s most critically-acclaimed Bourbons.Today, Craig works alongside his father Parker, the 2003 Whisky Advocate Lifetime Achievement Award winner, in much the same way Parker did years before with his father Earl. Together, the two are responsible for making sure that the Bourbon that is produced by Heaven Hill possesses the same high quality and consistent taste consumers have come to expect from such storied brands as Evan Williams and Elijah Craig. This includes the integration of the wheated-formula Old Fitzgerald brand, included as part of the company’s acquisition of the Bernheim facility. The historic Bernheim distillery, located in Louisville, is the site where all of Heaven Hill’s whiskeys are produced.Craig and his father oversee all aspects related to production, and the two are also charged with safeguarding the world’s second-largest supply of aging Kentucky Bourbon whiskey – an inventory of nearly 700,000 barrels currently aging in open rick warehouses.With Craig firmly entrenched in the business of distilling since 1983, the family’s continued legacy of making Bourbon is assured well into the future.
